Machu Picchu

As you travel down the Urubamba river from the Sacred Valley you quickly descend in altitude to 2000 m (6600 feet) at the village of Aquas Calientes. From Aquas Calientes it is a 10-15 minute bus ride which zig-zags up the mountain to the entrance of Machu Picchu Citadel.  Some of the most iconic Machu Picchu photos can be taken as soon as you enter the main gate of Machu Picchu.

Tickets for Machu Picchu

Tickets for Machu Picchu should be booked 6 months or more before your travel date.  It is possible to get last minute tickets but it requires a 24-48 hr wait in person in Aquas Calients. For last minute tickets a tour guide will accompany you to the Ministerio Tourismo to help you get your last minute tickets.
